"Music is the universal language."

Many of the African Hearts children are talented individual musicians. Almost all those attached to the Kampala house play instruments in the brass band. The “Royalle Brass Band” is important for several reasons; as a recreation and training medium for each boy in music;  the discipline of practice and playing together; the ‘public face’ of African Hearts when playing in the community; and a source of income through concerts and performances that help towards the day to day costs of running the organization.

Asher who is the band’s teacher has a music video of his group on YouTube, Kwagale. You can view this and other individual performances with vocals in English and Luganda, and Guitar and tuba instrumentals.

One special and poignant performance from the African Hearts boys, most of whom have personal experience of the tragedy of AIDS is a song to promote AIDS awareness called “Let’s fight AIDS”.

Supporters in Canada and the USA have helped the band through gifts of instruments, music, uniforms, and fund raising concerts.

Recently the younger boys at Ssenge have begun to play brass instruments with older boys acting as their teachers.
